Voice! Verse! & Power!  is the explosive showcase from the participants of the second Shake! course. Featuring freshly created poetic, filmic and musical responses to injustice, the showcase will present an original and inspiring mix of political creativity. Shake!r's Recommendation: Venus/Mars a play by Patrice Etienne

The theatre company I run (New Movement Theatre) have collaborated with Act Up this year and we are proud to present Venus/Mars by Patrice Etienne. The play hits the stage from 28th May-15th June at the Old Red Lion Theatre - I have pasted all the details below for you. Venus/Mars will also have an exclusive soundtrack made for it by BBC Radio 1 DJ Dev. It is an amazing play with a very unique script. I would love to see you all there!

NEWS! Arts Council funds Shake's major programme!

Great news at Shake! 

ACE funded the pilot, and have now
come through for the major programme

With the Arts Council coming up with a major grant of £57,000, we are 50% towards our funding target to roll Shake! out at two London centres over three years. We'll be working intensively with 150 young people, 75 artists in training, 300 policy-makers, and gazillions of audience through our social media comms campaigns, online and live youth-made films, performances, publications and policy-changing documents.

After Shake's pilot project which started August 2010 at Stephen Lawrence Centre, we knew we had to do this again and do it BIG. So, after gathering a lot of ideas and feedback from everyone involved in the project, the team worked up a three-year programme. This involves doing two Shake! intensive courses a year, each with their own Continuity Programmes of mentoring and support work, based at Stephen Lawrence Centre and at exciting new partner Bernie Grant Arts Centre (Tottenham).

Two Charged with Stephen Lawrence Murder

Two men are to face trial for the murder of London teenager Stephen Lawrence 18 years ago.
Gary Dobson and David Norris have been charged with killing the 18-year-old at a bus stop in Eltham in 1993.
Dobson, 35, and 34-year-old Norris were arrested last September but the development could not be reported until today for legal reasons.

KAVIS NEW FILM IDEAS AND VOLUNTEER WORK UPDATE.

Hey Z,
The site is looking wicked. I've just started getting into Facebook, more for networking and raising awareness than anything else. I was wondering if you could send me the pictures from the whole week, so I could make an album and also cut a video for the group and put it on the site. It would be  really good  to make another video with the group as well more performance based, Jane said platform have a camera so I'm gonna try getting ppl together again.


Also, I thought It would be good to put upcoming events that could be of interest to us, poetry slams, film festivals, guest speaker talks on the site.

MAMA Youth Project is a working production company and a registered charity which helps Black, Asian Minority and Ethnic groups (BAME) and deprived young adults between the ages of 16 and 25, get a start in broadcast television. 

We are actively promoting diversity within the television industry by giving free hands-on training to diverse young adults under represented within the industry and give young adults the essential work ethics, practical skills and attributes to have a strong chance of finding employment.

No experience is required! Just intensive training supervised by our staff trainers.

This is a great opportunity for your young adults to gain real work experience. At the end of their training they will know exactly what it feels like to go out and work on a television programme. Their confidence and self esteem will rise dramatically.

Hi all!

I have great news for anyone who's doing the IB Diploma (I know a couple of you are, but I can't remember who)! SHAKE! counts as CAS! You can claim 60 hours for it if you attended for the whole 5 days and can prove what you've done and which group you were a part of.

You get 30 hours for Creativity and 30 for Action, which means nearly HALF of the requisite 150 wiped out in one week!
